A SGIS solution is a complete power plant for installation in existing buildings and adjacent areas. A SGIS installation gives 220V 24/7 from a large battery bank which is charged by a solarpanel installation and a generator (when needed).
It is possible to use only solar panels and a battery bank in an installation requiring several kW. However, if a solar/battery bank system is to perform during several days of heavy overcast and in extra ordinary situations where more electricity than normal is required, the system has to be designed with a large solar/battery bank system only needed for a few days per year. It is much more cost effective to use a generator to give this extra boost and have a solar/ battery bank system designed for a normal situation.
The main advantage of a SGIS solution, compared with a traditional generator solution, is that the diesel generator will only run when needed. This saves large quantities of fuel, the maintenance costs are much lower and the generator last much longer.
The SGIS systems are delivered in sizes from 4 kW to 5000 kW. The most basic systems can be manually operated, while the more advanced systems, usually the large systems, can be fully automatic. For example automatic start of generator when the battery bank shows a certain charge level.
Getek has developed a system for remote surveillance of this kind of systems. At our surveillance centre Getek already monitor a number of installations. If an error is detected, the operator of the system will be contacted and given instructions on how to correct the error, if this does not work a service person will be sent to repair. Because the error is detected at an early stage, the energy supply for the installation will not be interrupted and costly repairs can be avoided.
A SGIS solution can be designed to fit any customer’s needs. Please contact Getek International and we can design a perfect solution for you.
The SGIS is well suited for:
Tourist Lodges and hotels - SGIS is ideal for tourist lodges. One will always have enough electricity but the generator does not have to run 24/7 and in low seasons it might not run at all.
Hospitals - Electricity demand in hospitals can fluctuate considerably, and the electricity system has to be able to handle this. For rural hospitals in areas outside the grid a SGIS solution is perfect.
Minigrids - A local minigrid can save large quantities of fuel with a SGIS installation.
Field offices - The use of field offices often fluctuates considerably. A SGIS solution will give electricity 24/7 to power light, communication systems etc.. The generator can give an extra boost if need be.
